Would some be so kind as to help me get the sensor package up and running on 8.0, I have loaded the package via Yast and updated via apt-get. When I run /usr/sbin/sensors-detect I get the attached return. If I do ls -v sensors it shows no directories or files. Please help as I would like to get this up and running, then into gkrellm. TIA David

----cut here---- # I2C adapter drivers modprobe i2c-isa # I2C chip drivers modprobe sis5595 #----cut here---- In a terminal window, become root then do modprobe i2c-isa then modprobe sis5595 Try the result of sensors and that should be it Then launch gkrellm, and you should have it all in all its graphical glory Then follow this advice To make the sensors modules behave correctly, add these lines to either /etc/modules.conf or /etc/conf.modules: #----cut here---- # I2C module options alias char-major-89 i2c-dev #----cut here---- linux:/home/dbtrol # fxf -- ______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux nibz.org

David, I am a little new to this but once I ran the modprobs suggested by the sensors-detect then ran sensors -s and then sensors everything worked for me. So, if you run: modprobe i2c-isa modprobe sis5595 sensors -s sensors What do you get? Also make sure that : alias char-major-89 i2c-dev exists in your /etc/modules.conf If all this works then the sensors should show up in gkrellm. Hope this helps, Darrell Cormier
It was not a problem in fact; but in case anyone needs it, i decided to write a "solved" msg. I burned a cd which has exactly the same directory structure with any suse ftp mirror. It was like as follows : /i386/update/8.1/disks (downloaded all) /i386/update/8.1/patches (downloaded all) /i386/update/8.1/rpm/i586 (downloaded only the patch.rpms and the nfo files of them. Didn't download full rpm's and symlinks) /i386/update/8.1/rpm/i686 (same as i586) /i386/update/8.1/rpm/noarch (same as i586) /i386/update/8.1/rpm/nosrc (downloaded all) /i386/update/8.1/rpm/src (empty) /i386/update/8.1/scripts (downloaded all) Then i used Yast's patch-cd update tool. First, Yast installs YOU patches. Then it reminds the user to run it again. The second time it installs Yast patches. The third time it installs every other patch. Many thanks to everyone who helped me with this.

Why don't we leave it to the moderator to do this ?

Because this list doesn't have a moderator. Besides, I've given up on trying improve "netiquette"--it's a lost cause. These are the same people that spit chewing gum on the ground, paint their nails on the train in the morning, and yak on cellphones during movies. -- -ckm

Well spoken, and let's add people who just top post, and leave the entire thread as it was, just adding to it, or my favorite, people who post in HTML. <g> -- Gary sed '/^[when][coders]/!d /^...[discover].$/d /^..[real].[code]$/!d ' /usr/share/dict/words

I cannot believe a person with a sig like yours just said "hear hear" to
a call for netiquette. Oh the irony :)
Besides, I suspect far more time and bandwidth are wasted by people
complaining about netiquette than by the actual culprits. I've just been
away from this list for over a month. when i left, that Shanahan
character was flaming people left right and center. Now, over a month
later, he's *still* at it. sheesh

I submit to you to the rules of netiquette as listed below. Four lines of code (which that was) or just about anything is perfectly permissible. There is no irony. As a rule, my sigs rotate. http://www.albion.com/netiquette/book/0963702513p62.html http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/questions.html http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/signat.txt -- Gary when it comes to the fork in the road, take it!

Four lines of code, yes, but the sig was six lines.

Now that cracks me up... touche, <g> I'll work on the code. <vbg> -- Gary Chaos, panic, pandemonium - my work here is done.
Oops!.. I'm really sorry. I didn't know about that message id thing.. I'm archiving most of the messages quickly in a different format than a mail. When i want to reply an archived one, it was easy for me to reply anyone & change the subject. I don't use a threaded mail client. Anyone could warn me before running me down like this. And no moderators needed; really..
My comment about the moderators wasn't directed ay you, but rather at the self-appointed "meassage thread police". If it's a problem, let the moderator handle it, no-one else has the right to "enforce" anything..

Shanahan does this list a good service in my opinion. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.yahoo.com

Because this list doesn't have a moderator. Besides, I've given up on trying improve "netiquette"--it's a lost cause.
It isn't a lost cause until those with knowledge of netiquette give up. The problem arose due to the huge influx of newbies who have no appreciation of the importance of RFCs and standards. It's as if 25 million Americans were transported to the UK with their vehicles and drove on the right as they are accustomed to do. The result would be chaos, as it is when so many people don't understand the reasons for not hijacking threads and not engaging in TOFU. I haven't given up yet and hope you haven't either. -rex -- "More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. Hello Darrell, Ran the modprobe for i2c-isa all ok with that. Ran modeprobe for sis5595 with attached results. Cannot seem to find why this keeps failing. David
