Re: [SLE] Fw: samba overhead comparing to other file server
The hardware involved are identical, the same client and server machine were used throughout the test. For the Win98-to-Win98 trial, the 80 MB directory sum up to 87,450,775 send bytes over 89107 frames, these number look reasonable to me as the extra 7 MB seem to be packet overheads introduced by What tools do you use to look into this matter (e.g., counting the

Using, e.g., ftp within Midnight Commander's virtual file system, I have an indication about the average transfer rate. It is approximately 5.7-6 kB/sec when I transfer my own files between two computers linked with an ISDN link (max 8 kB/sec). Using ftp programs in Windows over the same link consistently gives me figures around 7.7 kB/sec. So, I tend to agree that there is more overhead in Linux than in Windows. But again, I am no expert. -- # \\\|/// # (-@-@-) # ====oOO==(_)==OOo========================================== # Andrei Mircea <mircea.andrei@wanadoo.fr> # .oooO Oooo. The tools we used in class were: a clock. We timed the transfer from Linux -> Windows, and Windows -> Windows. Linux -> Windows took 28 seconds. Windows -> Windows took 45 seconds for the same 25MB file, which yields 936 KB/sec for Linux, and 583 KB/sec for Windows. This was on a 10Base2 network. -- George Toft http://www.georgetoft.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
