Problems with Supermicro MB and Intel ethernet cards with 8.1
I am having an issue with installing 8.1 with a Supermicro motherboard
P4DPE-Q rev 2.0 and its onboard and pci-64bit intel Ethernet cards.
The install goes great, I go to configure the card (or port) 'up' and it
says it comes up. I see that the link is seen as 100/Full in the kernel
ring buffer it claims that it is up 100/Full. However no traffic will
pass properly. The dhcp server sees the request (if configured for
dhcp) and gives an offer, but the system does not see any of that
traffic. If the interface is configured up as a static, it can ping
itself but nothing else on the net. (I did not verify that remote
machines see the ping, but I assume they do.)
This problem also occurred with a 64-bit pci bus version of the Intel
Pro 1000MT Server adapter.
Install with SuSE 8.0 and there are no issues with the ports.
Any ideas as to what the issue may be?
I have seen a couple other people post to other lists without seeing any
answers.
I can live with 8.0 on these machines, but I would like to migrate all
my new machines (of each of the 6 types I deploy) to the same
distribution version.
I will pull one of these machines from the lab in a couple weeks and
will be able to test if anyone has a 'fix'
Thanks.
