I just tried ULB Gnome again -- via apt -- and I had some observations / questions. 1) All of my icons within Nautilus are the generic "paper" icon. I tried switching icon themes to no avail. 1.5) The "Computer" icon on the Nautilus toolbar... isn't. Nothing appears in that space. 2) None of my OpenOffice icons seem to work any more, including the ones on the generic SuSE menu. I created a launcher on a toolbar that calls /opt/OpenOffice.org/program/soffice, though, and this works fine. Double-clicking an OO.o file within Nautilus doesn't do anything either. 3) Evolution... a) Won't display the monospace font I like B&H Lucida Typewriter) in 9pt size. It only goes down to 10. Quibble, for most people, but I've ditched whole distro's because of font issues before. b) Gnome-pilot still seems broken. At least, it won't talk to my Tungsten C, which has no problems sync'ing with a GTK2-ized version of JPilot I compiled myself. Is this (still) a known problem, or should it be working? This alone might have been about 50% of the reason I wanted to try Evo 2.0. Thanks, dk P.S. I had to "GPG::Check false;" in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/gpg-checker.conf to get the install to proceed. Shouldn't this be stated somewhere? I would have gladly checked some keys into my ring, but I don't see James putting a key "out there" to grab. All but 1 package had no signature. I think it was Epiphany that was holding things up.

Following an upgrade to the latest ulb-gnome packages (on 3 October) i have to say that it is generally running smoothly, with the only problem being the theme-manager which crashes each time I use it. Evolution pilot is syncing quite happily with my Palm 505, though perhaps one in ten times, it crashes for no apparent reason.I haven't tried to use B&H Lucida but otherwise no font issues. I'll have a look when I get home. "Computer" displays all my drives except the external usb, even if mounted. So, I wonder what the problem is?

Huh, how did I miss the original post?

Not sure what would cause this - check with Google and maybe then head to bugzilla.gnome.org

Hummm, two Nautilus related issues, wonder if you're missing a package - does apt upgrade hold back anything?

The Nautilus one I think is to do with the MIME system - I'm seeing it too, and need to figure out why. Dunno what's up with your menu entries though - right-click, and hit Properties to see what they're trying to launch specifically.

Don't have a Tungsten, but it works with my M105. WIll be doing updated packages of gnome-pilot soon though. Maybe this week, time allowing.

Is the external one in fstab?

My new epiphany[-extensions] packages uploaded yesterday are the first I remembered to sign. I promise to do so in future :) Oh yes, my key is also now in the rpmkeys APT component. -- James Ogley james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://rubberturnip.org.uk

Well, it's still quite early in the morning there, isn't it?

Yup. It's not a big deal, though....... Actually, I quite like it. The file manager behaviour, opening new windows all the time, takes a bit of getting used to, and I miss not being able to display a directory tree (or have I just not found that one yet?). I have a lot of directories filled with image files and they seem to load much faster in Nautilus than in 2.4 Thanks for working on these early problems, James - at the expense of essay time! David

And I've not had coffee yet...

Thank you, James - missed that. I am happy now. David -- Registered Linux User No 207521 The Linux Counter: http://counter.li.org/ "The above is my personal opinion and does not necessarily reflect that of the little voices in my head."

Ok. Color me embarrassed. I thought that -- me keeping my systems up to date with automatic you runs overnight and all -- I wouldn't need to have the "base" line in my sources.list file. Boy was I wrong! As you know, but for the benefit of others, there are more ulb packages pulled as dependencies with the ``apt-get upgrade'' than there are with the ``apt-get install ulb-gnome'' line. Now Nautilus is working fine. In fact, it's obvious now that I was still running the old version of Nautilus before the upgrade. I wonder why I could have installed ulb-gnome at all before running the upgrade...

Since the "upgrade," I can now get something to appear on the taskbar when I choose the OOo icon, but it goes away, and nothing comes up. I note that this icon runs /usr/X11R6/bin/OOo, which is a link to OOo-wrapper. Running this directly gives me this: /opt/OpenOffice.org/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: /opt/OpenOffice.org/program/widgets/gtk/libvcl645li.so: undefined symbol: XineramaIsActive It looks like this version of OpenOffice is having a problem with the fact that I run two screens with Xinerama.

Since the "upgrade," the gnome-pilot function works, but I can't see any of the useful conduits. I see backup, test, and install, but not calendar, tasks, or contacts. I'm guessing there's another package I've left out, but I wouldn't know how to track it down. Any suggestions?

I saw this once. I was trying to pick a custom setup. The next time around, I just chose one of the pre-packaged themes, *then* chose to make my own, and it started working. Maybe this will help you as well. I've just gone through this exercise on my work computer, and I've seen a couple problems that I didn't notice at home: error: %post(bug-buddy-2.8.0-100.SuSE.ulb.1) scriptlet failed, exit status 127 error: %post(gnome-utils-2.8.0-100.SuSE.ulb.1) scriptlet failed, exit status 127 Executing /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.scrollkeeper... bugzilla.ximian.com
Just FYI, the fonts used when opening a window to view an email is fixed (since doing the upgrade step). However, the preview pane seems to be linked to the variable-width font size. It isn't until I lower this value that I get the aspect ratio I want. I know, I know: bugzilla.ximian.com. I should, but... dk
