how to get kcd player to work
Hi All Im trying to figgure out how to simply play a music cd with kscd. If I put a cd in the program says "no kcddb entries" as if it were looking for a database entry. No doubt the program should easily work... but for the life of me I cant simply insert a music cd and have it play. I can play system sounds and when I insert a music cd the counter on the cd increments.. and volume is up but no sound any ideas how to get this to work? thanks rob -- God may be subtle, but He isn't plain mean. -- Albert Einstein 6:05am up 3 days, 7:30, 4 users, load average: 1.00, 1.00, 1.00 __ _ / / (_)__ __ ____ __ / /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \ / /____/_/_//_/\_,_//_\_\

which volume is up? Open Kmix (click on the speaker symbol) and check that the cd vol is up (should be 3d from right), not just the speaker vol. If both are up, it might be the cable from your cd to the sound card is not connected. BR, Gudmund
Ahhhh Its working now I diddnt realise you had to control the volume from *another* mixer. The volume I was referring to (trying to use) was the horizontal bar in the middle of kscd. A side note... even when a cd is playing you still get that ridicolous message of "No matching cddb entry found" in my opinion the whole layout of the k menus *really* need some work to make it more/as intutive as windows On my KDE I have the big K icon a SuSE icon and yet *another K icon! all seem to have some tyes to "multimedia* most counter intutive and confusing, not to mention messy The fetchmail config is messy too!! you have all these widgets popping up all over the place. Considering fetchmail is the primeir program for getting mail I would think a more professional design I like Linux and especially SuSE but K desktop seems quite a way to go yet. thanks for your suggestion best regards rob Gudmund Areskoug wrote:

I would suggest using 7.1 and KDE 2.1 ...the things your describing are KDE 1 things and irrelavent now. ;) I would also let you know that they public CDDB that most GNU software had been using went private and can't be accessed... One last thing my friend...KDE and Gnome are as easy to use as Windows..they just don't do everything deadbang the same *grin* Regards, -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
Hey Ben... your still here huh? <vbg> I thought I *had* the new version..... well when I see SuSE 7 whatever in *borders books* Ill get it Then I suppose Ill be going thru all the updating/converting/kernel issues sigh I will definetly say this... the low level software/utilities are of the higest quality (which keeps my interest). Im a firm believer the open source programmers will soon turn their attention to polishing up / adding highly functional-intutive x window programs then.... full world domination!! [with SuSe at the helm of course!!] glad to see you still involved rob Ben Rosenberg wrote:

haven't tried it yet, but it seems like a rather practical linking of tracks to titles etc.
in my opinion the whole layout of the k menus *really* need some work to make it more/as intutive as windows
Windoze merely appears to be intuitive, because it's what people are used to. Kind of like Newspeak. The Big Difference: you can actually do something about it: http://www.kde.org Have fun! /Gudmund
