Yes, this is possible. The programs you want is ipchains ('man ipchains' or 'less /usr/doc/howto/<your-language>/IPCHAINS-HOWTO.gz'). For example, if you wanted to block all connections to and from your port 23, you might issue the following commands: ipchains -I input 1 -p tcp -d $LOCALIP 23 -j REJECT ipchains -I output 1 -p tcp -s $LOCALIP 23 -j REJECT ipchains -I input 1 -p udp -d $LOCALIP 23 -j REJECT ipchains -I output 1 -p udp -s $LOCALIP 23 -j REJECT where $LOCALIP is the IP address of the computer you're blocking. If you need more help, just ask, Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer. I'll try to catch up with my email over the coming days, but don't be surprised if you get a reply in a month's time... __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Sorry for my bad english. I have tried to say something else. I have made a TCP server application but it's in a working state , and so right now I have some open connection on my server port. Can I close these 'dead' connection without restarting the computer ? Thanks , Crosby. -------------------------------- On Thu, 13 Apr 2000, you wrote:

I'm sure there must be a program somewhere that'll do what you want... I'm guessing your application was using a port and 'forgot' to close it before exiting, and now you want to get rid of it? You can close all the ports without restarting your computer, but unfortunately the only way I know how is to restart the network, and I presume you don't want to do that, either... If you did want to do that, as root type 'init 1' and then once you get the prompt back, type 'init 2' if you normally boot into a console, or 'init 3' if you normally boot straight into X. Unfortunately I don't have any other ideas.

Hope it's fixed soon, Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer.
