OK, it is not a winmoden and wvdial does recognize it. Do you want me to attach the file? I will. Actually I am dialing and getting the handshaking and when the time comes to get connected it hang up. I am using the kinternet dialing to netzero. --- dizzy73 <dizzy73@connix.com> wrote:

Hi Ricardo, As I stated before your problem is not with the modem but with the ppp setup. Is your ISP using PAP or CHAP authorisiation? If you are not sure try using PAP as it is the most common. This is for sending the user name and password to your ISP. There should be a number of lines in /var/log/messages covering the handshake with your ISP. I have not used Kinternet to dial my ISP so not sure how it handles the config of the PPP area. The three main files involved in config of PPP are:- /etc/ppp/options /etc/ppp/pap_secrets /etc/resolv.conf to setup the options file have a look at man pppd and the /etc/ppp/options file Kinternet may over ride these files and use its own files. As I stated ealier I have not used or tried this program. Someone else who has experiance with this program may want to comment on this. Regards, Graham Smith ----------------------------------
Paste the file into an email. (take out your username&password) what happens if you just run wvdial from a terminal(shell) window. This would eliminate any possible conflicts with kinternet or netzero (both which I have no experience.) try this start wvdial from a terminal start another terminal (alt + F whatever) do a tail -f /var/log/messages > wvdialdiag.log start netscape or konquerer and see if you connect Im not familiar with netzero does that use a username / password and assign your machine a dynamic ip? see if you can paste the pertinent sections of wvdialdiag.log rob

Netzero uses a proprietary dialer (Windows only) that dials, gives the username and password, loads their banner ad window (zeroport), and starts your default browser. It is a Windows only dialer. You won't get kinternet to work with them. Sorry. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris
