SuSE 7.1. I installed the rpm version of RealPlayer 7 Basic with Package Manager. It seemed to install OK. When the install was finished I got the Welcome message, all looked like it installed correctly. But then when I ran realplay in a terminal, all I got was the RealPLayer wndow with a few of the buttons, but that's all, nothing else, it just froze right there. I couldn't close the window by clicking on the X on the window. I had to use the Process Manager to kill it. Has anybody gotten RealPlayer to work in SuSE 7.1? jvb

No but RealPlayer 8 seems to work just fine. -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com
I also get RealPlayer 8 to run, but I get an error message that it cannot open the audio device, because it is perhaps used by another application. I cannot figure out what audio device it is looking for. On Sat, 7 Apr 2001, Mark Hounschell wrote:

I use RealPlayer 8 Basic on my box running SuSE 7.1, (updated from 7.0) with KDE 2.0.1 and kernel 2.2.18. RealPlayer 8 works fine. The only thing I had to do extra (of course, besides download it from http://www.real.com and install it) was to change Netscape and Konqeror from trying to start RealPlayer 5, which I used earlier, and no longer was possible to use. Also the sound was much better with version 8. I haven't tried RealPlayer 7. I hope version 8 can do a better job for you too. Lennart
