evolution: please hold my email for a while!
Hello. I am pretty used to Outlook Express with a good feature (or, I call it a good feature) that when I send an email, the email is not directly going out, it stay in the local out-going-email folder for a while, giving me time to think about it or cancel it. I am spoiled. Now I often press 'send' button, and go on working, two minutes later I suddenly start to think the email has a wrong digit or sent to the wrong person, or one more person should be 'cc'ed. But it's too late, the email is already gone. I am spoiled by Outlook Express that I have the chance to further work on the email even after I sent it. I know it's so much better to be able to think carefully before I send it, for me what I need is the same feature (delay email for 10 minutes, or only send email at round clock) for evolution. I checked all the preferences settings, I didn't find such setting. Is this feature missing or is it hidden?

It's a feature. On *nix, the system does what the user has been asking to do. On M$ software has a will of its own, it does what the OS thinks the user actually might want to do. Not per se what the user wants. If you could delay the deliveral (by postfix or so), than it would always delay all of your mail, Is this what you want? Might have undesirable effects, like sending a mail, and some minutes later power down before dashing off to work ( or at home) , and wondering why the message did not arrive. <snip> Hi again Zhang Wei Wu! I used Evolution for a long time but eventually switched to KMail because, IMHO, KMail seems to be much more flexible and is definitely easier for a user to configure and customize. In any event, I think you still have 'Drafts' folders in Evolution, don't you? Can you not effectively 'suspend' a mail in 'Drafts' until you are convinced it is ready to send? Nice hearing from you again! Carl

kmail has a send now option and a send later - the send later places the message into the outbox and waits for the next send and receive. This is the feature I think you are looking for. I do not know if evolution offers the same option.

Thank you for this suggestion. I know this option: if I use the "Drafts" feature, then I further need a feature to "send all drafts" so that when I am ready I don't need to go to Draft folder, open email one by one and click 'send' for everyone of them. It's good to know kmail can do it. I'll try it later. Thank you all!

If you're willing to switch to kmail, it has the option to "send now" or "send later". Using "send later", the mail sits in your outbox until you use the "send queued messages" command. When a mail is in your outbox you can right-click it and click Edit to re-work it as many times as you like. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. The closest thing that I can find to do in evolution is as follows: 1. Click on your Outbox folder 2. From the evolution menu choose: Message -> Post New Message To Folder 3. Create the message you will eventually wish to send. 4. Send the message. The message will be kept in the Outbox folder. When you are ready to send it to the actual recipient, click on the message. Enter the recipient's address and send it as normal. Rick -- Rick's Law: What cannot be imagined will be accomplished by a fool. PGP Key Id: 9E1125E0
