If I right-click on the single workspace in the task bar, I can change my Workspace Switcher preferences (so it must be running), and increase the number of workspaces to 4, but nothing happens and the change isn't saved. If I right-click again, it is back to "Workspaces 1".

Hi Mike, This presents an interesting case as I just installed 11.4 GNOME-only 'from scratch' last week, too. (For some reason I've always installed at least both KDE and GNOME since probably 8.2) In any case, my updater applet is working, all the packages are up to date and I'm extremely pleased.
