We had a similar discussion a couple weeks ago. Maybe my answer to
that applies?
I posted:

Looking on line it seems the XRDP session server allows session
takeover of an X-session.
The second answer here claims to have it working on Ubuntu with Gnome:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/235905/use-xrdp-to-connect-to-desktop-session
They are using: Xrdp, vino, and a RDP client.
==> Vino
Is a VNC server for Gnome. I assume there is something similar for
KDE? (vino is in factory)
==> Xrdp
https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/wiki
It's in OBS: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11:RemoteDesktop/xrdp
There was a git commit just 3 days ago, so it is still being developed:
https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp
But the last release was almost 2 years ago. The version in OBS is
pulled from GIT 6 months ago (I think).
==> RDP client
For the client you can use any Windows PC ;)
Or rdesktop is in factory (and has been for years).
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11:Utilities/rdesktop
TBH, I haven't used rdesktop in 3 or 4 years, but I wasn't very happy
with it at the time. I've forgotten what my issues were. I think I
had a couple bugzillas open at the time.

Use x11vnc: x11vnc - allow VNC connections to real X11 displays. There is a package for it in the repos. man x11vnc explains how to setup connection through ssh tunnel. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I just tried that and noticed that it displays the existing desktop. Is there anyway to get it to display a new desktop, the was X11 does? Another issue is when a 1080p display (my desktop) is accessed by a 720p display (my notebook, it's necessary to scroll around the screen to see the entire desktop. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try x11vnc today as Istvan
suggested (thanks) and will post my results later on.

OK, some progress, when I run the GUI for x11vnc and specify port
5900, type a password and apply, I can use VNC fine from a remote
machine just as I requested.
Now when I run x11vnc -display:0 -rfbport 5900 -rfbauth
/home/admin/x11vnc.pass I only get server not found error.
(yes I have run x11vnc -storepassword mypassword
/home/admin/x11vnc.pass already)
I have tried x11vnc with -forever
I have turned off suse firewall
Still no luck. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

perhaps you should designate a "server" as I don't see one on the commandline you quote. I don't use x11vnc, rather tigervnc and must designate a server there: vncviewer --passwd ~/.vnc/passwd <server> ps: you might consider trimming ???? following local convention for quoting ???? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It's not clear what are your doing exactly since you didn't write your vncviewer command. I tried your vncserver command on my local machine and it works. -rfbport 5900 tells x11vnc server it has to listen to port 5900. Since this is the default option it is not necessary to specify it. Let's see how to make a connection between a local machine named "local" and and a remote machine named "remote". On local you run the command in a terminal: x11vnc -rfbauth path/to/password/file -display :0 On remote you run: vncviewer <local> :0 Here local should be local's URL address. If you run on local: x11vnc -rfbport 5902 -rfbauth path/to/password/file -display :0 you have to run on remote: vncviewer <local> :2 Don't omit the space between <local> and :0 or :2 Naturally ports 5900 or 5902 should be enabled in the firewall. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
I start the server via xinetd. /etc/xinetd.d/x11vncservice on the server system looks like this: service x11vncservice { socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = root server = /usr/bin/x11vnc server_args = -inetd -rfbauth /etc/vncpasswd -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -find -env FD_XDM=1 -shared -forever port = 5900 type = UNLISTED } You can figure the command line if wanting to start it by hand. My client command is (connecting to a server called 'sys47'): vncviewer -passwd /home/roger/.vncpasswd sys47:0 Don't remember why I use vncviewer as the client. But it has been working great.
