[opensuse] Pocket PC and disappearing network (DNS)
Have recently acquired a new pocket PC (iPaq612c), and, although it runs the wrong OS, it's not a bad device. I would really like to be able to sync/copy stuff to/from it using Suse11, but after lots of googling and a couple of messages to this group, have had no replies, so apparently it aint that easy... :-( But my current problem is networking. When I plug the iPaq in to my PC via USB to charge it, it kills the networking within Suse. More specifically, I believe it is killing DNS, as the networking is still there, but trying to ping anything by name, give a "can't find" error (or similar). That's ok (well, not really), but the main pain is that even if I then disconnect it, I can't get my networking back until I reboot... Have tried restarting network and xinetd, but it won't work until a reboot.... How can I do a total restart of networking without rebooting? And also, if anyone has any ideas about getting a PPC accessible via Suse, that would be GREAT!! Thanks, John. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

John What i've done to restart the network is to 1. load up konsole, 2. "su" to root, 3. cd /etc/init.d 4. type in ./network restart (or ./network stop; then ./network start) no idea about any of the other questions you have. regards Ian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

None of that works.... Can still access the local network (assuming by IP) but can't browse the internet (address not found) so I assume that DNS is still not working 'til a reboot....
