I am having trouble getting Everybuddy to work. I started out just logging onto AIM service and that worked. Next I added MSN and now it won't run at all. Now when I try to start Everybuddy, I get the gear icon with the mouse cursor and Everybuddy appears on the task bar with an hourglass and then disappears. I searched SuSE support but didn't find anything on Everybuddy. I tried a few months of the archive for this list and didn't find anything. I searched Google for Everybuddy but it seems that Everybuddy is dead. Any suggestions? Damon Register

Yeah. Everybuddy forked into another client and then Everybuddy died. I'd suggest just using Gaim. It does all the protocals and is quite nice actually. The ulb package works well and is up to date. :) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

For those who know not what the mystical incantation 'ulb' than Ben has used here means, point your favourite browser of the web to www.usr-local-bin.org James, with too much Wolf Blass Cabernet Sauvignon inside him.[1] [1]Is there such a thing as too much Wolf Blass? -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the ulb packages for 8.2. He mentioned he was using 8.0. Ah right, probably not - far too many significant changes -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). That's right, Everybuddy is dead. The new project is Ayttm, it is the old Everybuddy but with a lot of new features.

Wow. I just downloaded and compiled Ayttm and it's not even close to as nice as Gaim. I'd suggest going with Gaim. No offense to those who like Ayttm. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the Gaim and lik it. I couldn't get it to log onto MSN so I thought that maybe I needed a later version of Gaim so I tried to download and install. I think that opened a can of worms. It wouldn't build because I don't have GTK 2. I tried to get that and ran into more problems. It said that pkg-config couldn't be found so I tried to install that. That seemed to install ok but still I can't do the ./configure for GTK because it says that pkg-config can't be found. Since then I found that the MSN problem must have been a temporary net problem because I was able to log on. Has anyone been able to install and run the latest Gaim on SuSE 8.0? Better yet, is there a SuSE package? Damon Register

You may also want to take a look at AMSN : http://amsn.sourceforge.net/ AFAIK it is just for MSN but it works great. I have been using it for nearly a year now (with 8.0, 8.1 and now 8.2) and have not had any problems. YMMV Darrell
