I have noticed with my USB webcam plugged in, the system seems to see it as a USB audio device. Kmix shows only one slider labeled USB Audio Class Driver. That is not much of a problem, since I use gamix for my mixer, and it works properly. The webcam also works properly. Sound in general works properly. I can play CDs, oggs, wavs, use xawtv, etc. However, for some reason mpeg videos do not have sound. Why would they behave differently? If I unplug the usb webcam, mpeg videos have sound and Kmix turns into a normal mixer. Any ideas why this would be? Has anyone else experienced this? The two systems that have done this for me are Red Hat 7.2 and SuSE 8.0. Would there be a way to unload the USB Audio Class Driver? Where would I look for it? *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional KDE 3.0.0 KMail 1.4 This is a Microsoft-free computer Bryan S. I've got the same *exact* problem(?). It doesn't bother anything except when I play a video with sound, the video acts as if it's in extreme slow motion. If I tick off the sound part, the video goes back to regular speed. Real weird huh? John -- Linux...the freedom to do what *YOU* want, with *YOUR* computer. Could this possibly be the result of your USB hub sharing an interrupt with the sound card? I know on my machine, one of my hubs shares interrupt 11 with my Creative sound card. Don't know for sure if this a possiblity or not, but it sounds logical. :o) Maybe one of our hardware experts here can enlighten us more? Darn interrupts, should have been done away with a long time ago. Another one of those things Microsoft has managed to keep in the hardware. Black list your audio module. /etc/hotplug/blacklist....add the following lines. # audio driver for my usb webcam sometimes creates problems # in KDE 3 audio Then reboot. Salman On Tuesday 24 September 2002 23:37, Bryan Tyson wrote:
