In a nutshell: SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 has gone through additional hardening, has different documentation and package lists than SUSE Linux 10.1. An evaluation version is available but you have to pay for it. SUSE Linux 10.1 gets two years of security updates - and sometimes fix also other bugs. For SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop we offer seven years of maintenance (you need to pay a yearly fee for it) (maintenance includes security and generic fixes as well as hardware enablement) and will release several service packs. The target markets of the products are also different. Bought one for trial and have to say THANK YOU. I've been very pleased with it. Next to everything works out of the box with it that has previously been painful one way or the other (laptop power management, NetworkManager, VPNC, accelerated drivers, etc). Sure, it still has some minor annoyances especially with Gnome, but it will only mature from here - right? Even the visual basic scripting support in OO.org almost worked already (got some 'basic syntax errors' from it that seem to be ok for MS Office 2003). Really promising :) -- // Janne --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I think there is also a short summary on the opensuse website: http://en.opensuse.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions#What_is_the_difference_bet...
