[opensuse] HP LJ4 complains about invalid font.
Hello, With 11.1, I have a hard time to get my postscript-capable HP laserjet-4M working reliably. For more than 10 years, I never had any problem to get it working with any distro I tried (including suse). With 11.1, I get a fine printout when I print the test page in yast's printer setup dialog. In addition, a2ps also prints without any problems. But with programs like firefox, the only result I get is a postscript error: ERROR: invalidfont OFFENDING COMMAND: show STACK: () Nothing else. I have tried to change the driver, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Print to file, and then view the file... Possibly when you view the file, you might be able to adjust some options, at print time. :-? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. When I print from firefox into file, gv omits some graphics from the ps output, and graphics are rendered faulty from the pdf output, but at least the text is readable with gv. When I print the files with lpr, I get the error output from the printer again.

I am not sure I understand what you try to say? What options should I adjust? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah... I have an HP laser printer, newer than your model, and when I print some pages from the wikipedia some photos disappear. I don't know why, but it could be related to your problem. However, if you print to file directly from firefox, either to postscript or to pdf, and those files display incorrectly, then the printer is not at fault, nor the driver: it is a problem solely of firefox and that particular web page. What I do is copy sections to oowriter, edit, and print.

I don't know. Sometimes you see different options, like choose postscript lever version. But if the postscript file displays incorrectly, there is nothing to do there. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I know it might not be the answer you are looking for, but have you tried to use a PCL driver? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Uh, I have tried numerous drivers before posting, and none helped. Now, inspired by your suggestion, I tried "HP LaserJet 4 Plus Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.7.3", and finally it prints. But the quality is veery poor. Links in firefox are not readable at all. Now, does anywhere an overview of the quality of the numerous drivers exist? I am totally confused by all those combinations of CUPS/gutenprint/omni/foomatic/manufacturer drivers :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
