You need to edit ..

/boot/grub/menu.lst

Mine (extract) looks like this ..

title linux

kernel (hd0,5)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda6 vga=791 acpi=off

initrd (hd0,5)/boot/initrd

You don't need to do anything else, other than save the file and reboot.
