Re: [SLE] eth0 now eth1 WTF? Network woes....The saga....[Long][SOLVED - Bug?]
From: "Michael Kershaw" <mike.kershaw@gmail.com> Hey David, I just took a quick glance at your description of the problem your having, and it might be the same situation that I've already had to resolve here in my datacenter. Which version of SuSE are you running at the moment? If you'd like, send me the output of an ifconfig -a on your system, and an ls on /etc/sysconfig/network, and I might in fact be able to help you out man. =] Hope I can help ya, Mike K. Mike, Thanks for you willingness to help. I solved the problem by editing /etc/udev/rules.d/30-net_persistent_names.rules and removing the rule with the bogus "default" MAC address. All is working fine. I did file a bug report, but the power that be found it not worth fixing. Anyway, in response to your request: nemesis:/home/david # ifconfig -a eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:5A:87:C8:43 inet addr:192.168.6.16 Bcast:192.168.6.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::204:5aff:fe87:c843/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:73843 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:62151 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:23266606 (22.1 Mb) TX bytes:18581261 (17.7 Mb) Interrupt:11 Base address:0xec00 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:33243 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:33243 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2500254 (2.3 Mb) TX bytes:2500254 (2.3 Mb) sit0 Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4 NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) nemesis:/home/david # la /etc/sysconfig/network/ total 55 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 424 2006-01-24 22:10 . drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 1664 2005-12-08 23:41 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6979 2005-09-09 11:15 config -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6705 2005-12-05 09:47 dhcp -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 266 2006-01-24 22:10 ifcfg-eth-id-00:04:5a:87:c8:43 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 141 2005-09-09 11:15 ifcfg-lo -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5779 2005-09-09 11:15 ifcfg.template drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2005-09-09 11:27 if-down.d -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 239 2005-09-09 11:15 ifroute-lo drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 88 2005-12-05 01:10 if-up.d drwx------ 2 root root 48 2005-09-09 11:27 providers -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 26 2006-01-24 22:10 routes -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 26 2006-01-24 22:10 routes.YaST2save drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1336 2005-12-05 01:10 scripts -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5469 2005-12-05 01:01 wireless What do you think? -- David C.
