My scsi Umax scanner works well under xsane but only when I am root. As normal user, when I launch xsane it starts but does not see the scanner. Please help me to find which file(s)' permissions must be changed.

Besides the group problem, I had to change the permissions of /dev/sg1 to 660. It works now. On Fri, Dec 08, 2000 at 12:37:03AM +0200, Togan Muftuoglu wrote:

You need to chmod the generic scsi device to 777. Whatever you have linked to /dev/scanner...either /dev/sg0, /dev/sg1, etc. is your generic device, it should show in the boot messages. chmod 777 /dev/sg1
