I've just compiled the kernal for the 2nd (well 2nd successfully) time. Why - the last compile, I did not use SuSE source, this time I did. I also wanted to change my MB chipset settings, and I wanted to change my sound chipset. I chose the ALI M14xx MB chipset, and the Crystal Sound Chipset. Copied the zImage to loadlin directory, set ide0-ali14xx boot parameter, moved my CDRom drive from slave on the first controller to master on the second controller. Booted okay - looking good - 2nd IDE controller access etc. Question though, in the boot messages, I get: hdb: probing with STATUS instead of ALTSTATUS hdb: probing with STATUS instead of ALTSTATUS Is this bad?? - what can I do to get rid of these messages?? Also - what can I do to get mixer working on my Soundcard?? - pretty general question, I know, but maybe someone out there is a real whiz with sound, and can point me in the right direction - even if it's only to the necessary docs (and the HOWTO's seem woefully dated - maybe I'm looking in the wrong places:->) -- Dave E. -Linux 2.0.30 -SuSE 5.0-- Linux - the choice of a GNU Generation--- No more Blue screen of Death - and no regrets - Goodbye Microsoft! ----------------------Cyrix 586/100-32meg-2g----------------------- SHAMELESS Plug:-- dedwards@technologist.com 23yr of MF exp. avail. for home-based outsourcing contracts. ------------------------------------------------------------------- -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
