Starting OPERA via KDE icon vs command line
Hi ALL, Since updating OPERA to beta 7.2 my SuSE 8.2 sys won't start it via the KDE icon on the desktop or via the cmd line (see shell dialog)_: moses:~ # cd / moses:/ # cd /usr/bin moses:/usr/bin # opera Segmentation fault moses:/usr/bin # ./opera Segmentation fault moses:/usr/bin # But it starts properly when I click on the shell script "/usr/bin/opera" while in Konqi. What should I put in the 'properties' for the opera icon to get it to start properly? Try "opera %u" (w/o the quotes of course). This is the default command setup in the menu when installed. Zach "Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot them?"
Hi Zach, Sorry to say neither opera %u nor /usr/bin/opera %u work. They fail just as before, when used in the icon properties box. When used on cmd line I get the same seg fault. PeterB On Thursday 18 September 2003 04:39 pm, Zach Smith wrote:

Hi Guys, Thanks to all who offered help. I am back in business w/ OPERA. D/Ling the newest beta of 7.2 (beta 11) and installing it over beta 7 did the trick. It seems to have more features too. Thanks again ............ PeterB On Thursday 18 September 2003 11:59 pm, Jonathan Lim wrote:

Peter did you install the dynamic version?? I had the same problem today when I tried to install it. The static version went in fine and works well. Richard

I don't know what to tell you...I installed as root and have a .opera directory in my home directory. Only thing I can tell you is to try an old Windows trick (yup, re-install) and see what happens. Not that it matters, but I'm using the static RPM version (7.20 beta) and it works great on all fronts. Zach "Hear about the blond that tried to commit suicide? She couldn't find a razor so she shot herself in the wrist."
Peter, I've just re-read your original post. Make sure that you are a normal user when you are trying to run opera. Your session appears to be root (maybe after updating the RPM?). Unless you "sux"ed then you may have problems. Jon -- SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) Linux 2.4.20-4GB-athlon ruby 1.8.0 (2003-09-10) [i686-linux]
