Well, if you don't need one of those all-in-one clients. I use Kinkatta for AIM and Licq for ICQ. And I like both of them. They've never failed me and both come on the SuSE CD's. * windwalker (windwalker@fastmail.fm) [021008 21:28]: :: ::Query ::I just finished a SuSe install , and am well pleased.. ::One thing.. Possible not quite what you wanted, but I find Gaim much easier to use than everybuddy. You don't mention which version of SuSE you've installed, but if it's not on your CDs, it can be downloaded from http://www.usr-local-bin.org as a SuSE 8 rpm (should install OK on most installations - I put it on 7.3 with no probs) or from http://gaim.sourceforge.net as a tarball. With Gaim, once it's running, you choose the plugins for the protocols you want (e.g. MSN, AOL, Yahoo, TOC, Jabber; ICQ is done by default so don't worry about that). Then, set up the accounts and log in. Everybuddy stopped handling ICQ for me awhile back. For ICQ I use KXicq. I'm not sure what problem you are having in getting it going. What's not working? Nick

The version of EveryBuddy supplied with SuSE 8.0 does not function, you need to upgrade it. You may, however, discover that when you upgrade you run into a bevy of unmet dependencies and then the adventure begins. ;-) Same is true of GAIM. If you look through the archives you will discover many users who have struggled with this challenge, and for most no solution has been forthcoming. There is hope that some of the upgrades in 8.1 may have resolved these dependency issues, or that they have provided fuly functional versions of EveryBuddy or GAIM -- perhaps someone with 8.1 can answer that. I had EveryBuddy working very briefly and it was wonderful! Then I ran autoupdate on SuSE and it stopped working, never to rise again. :-( If you have lots of time, lots of patience, and are good at guessing the steps no one remembers to tell you and that no one bothers to document then go for it -- and if you'd be so kind please document how you got there so the rest of us may duplicate your success! IMHO, YMMV, etc. doc On Wednesday 09 October 2002 03:33, windwalker wrote:

I think you will find Gaim to be a worthy program for your ICQ purposes, plus any other chat you might want to subscribe too. I think too, that if you install it or Everybuddy or Kinkatta from your SuSE cds using Yast2, you won't run up on the "horrors" that doc describes. Using Yast2 control center to install your programs takes care of any dependencies, if you haven't mucked up something else along the way already. Upgrades after that go smoothly. A lot of the included programs are not the latest builds, so check for updates after installing from your CDs. / Patrick --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206

The latest available version for SuSE can be obtained from www.usr-local.bin.org, which is easily tracked with the Advanced Package Tool (apt). More about apt at: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

The everybuddy packed with 8.0 didn't work well, so I downloaded and installed the latest one, which works as a charm. I used the same download file to install it on my 8.1 No problem with installation or configuration. When people on MSN want to send me a file it didn't work on 8.0, that is my only complaint, and perhaps the full support of emoticons as used by MSN. On Thursday 10 October 2002 12:00 am, doc wrote:
