CDROM opens automatically
Hi all, I remember reading about this on one of the lists here, but don't remember which. I looked through the searchable list for it and did a google search with no luck. I know someone here has had the problem, so if someone would be so kind to remind me of the solution. The cdrom opens itself up about every 30 minutes. I don't remember if those that had trouble had a dvd or cdrom, but it was the same problem. The cd drawer would just pop itself out for no reason, you close it and sometime later it opens again! Solutions? TIA, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!"

A google search indicates that the solution was to kill suseplugger ???? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Or replace the CDROM drive, which is what I did when I was having trouble with this. I didn't do anything with suseplugger and the drive was old (a Mitsumi 24x). Christopher Reimer

the solution is to modify the file ~/.kde/share/config/susepluggerrc [General] UseCDAutoStart=true UseCDMediaDetect=true to [General] UseCDAutoStart=false UseCDMediaDetect=false There may be a global file, so you don't have to edit each user's file. You can let suseplugger on. -- Rafael

My "susepluggerrc" has the "before" form, yet I do not experience the symptom described. I think there's more to the problem than these particular settings.

To all that have some interest in this and since I was the original poster, I'll pass along what the user, locally, found to work. Turns out after replacing his cdrom drive with a bit newer model, his problem went away. Understand though, his other drive was manufactured in 2000, so it was not so old either, but it was a mitsumi drive! Mitsumi has for a long time been very Linux negative. This is another example of their bad judgement. I remember having a difficult time with 3 of their cdrw drives when I first began using Linux. Later I determined they were just not compatible with Linux for the most part! Back to the point at hand though, replacing the drive did fix the problem. regards, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!"
I am trying to create a new theme file. Ihave all the componants worked out except the icons , which I have created but it seems they need to be in an icon theme. Can someone tellme how I do this. I have looke don the documents etc but can not see how to. I feel I am missing something really obvious. Chris

At least one chap solved it by disabling the automount feature in fstab. But I think it was oftener than every 30'. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll pass them along to the user having trouble and see what we come up with, then I'll pass along the solution that works for him here. That way we'll have something in the mail archives others can search for should the question come up again. thanks, Lee
