I wish I could but I'm still new at this. I *did* want to say that I'm using the aic7xxx driver, compiled directly in from the 2.0.33.suse kernal code and I'm not having a problem... Infact, my install CD was SCSI.
I know that's not a big help, but it might give you added hope that the aic7xxx driver DOES work...
Yes, we have about two dozen of machines running with this driver rock solid... Doug Ledford has just released version 5.0.7 of his driver. In some hours you can find on ftp.suse.com: /pub/suse_update/kernel/linux-2.0.33-suse.tgz full kernel source tree /pub/suse_update/kernel/suse-2.0.33.gz patch against stock 2.0.33 /pub/suse_update/suse51/disks/eide01 standard bootdisk (aic7xxx as module) /pub/suse_update/suse51/disks/scsi01 aic7xxx compiled in Maybe you could give it a try...
