Log into another console (Alt+F2 or Ctl+Alt+F2) and do a `ps ax`. What X related processes are still running? I used to have the problem occasionally that tee would not exit. Once I killed its process, I was suddenly back in the console from which I had previously launched X looking at a system prompt. Hope it works for you. Sean
Hi That is a funny problem with that machine, I am unable to change the screen settings, and it works fine, I can star up, and work at long there is power on the PC, and I can make a shutdown, and a reboot, but not a login as a different user, I can see in the /var/log/kdm.log that say (EE) Screens found, but none have a usable configuration Fatal server error: No screens found If I try to logout, there is a lot of x processes hanging, then I have to reboot, and the x is comming up again. Maybe i have something with the PC to do, it is only a 300 MHZ machine, intel 82810 Graphics controller. If i try to change the settings, I get an error messages (EE) I810(0): AGP GART support is not avalable Maybe is easyer to set a new graphics adapter in?
