[S.u.S.E. Linux] automount

I've recently bought suse and set it up on my laptop. I was wondering if anyone had advice on where I could get a version of automount for linux. NFS is working but I don't want to have to mount every partition on every machine where I work, and then go home and have problems. Thanks Drew -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Just to recap: there is the Solaris (proprietary) automount there is the amd (also known as the BSD automounter) (there is a mailing list for amd) there is Linux autofs. Of course, they all use configuration files of different formats ... ---------- That's what I use on my laptop (I didn't upgrade, because that package doesn't come with SuSE `light'): johayek@Hayek5 $ rpm --query -i amd Name : amd Distribution: S.u.S.E Linux Version : upl102 Vendor: S.u.S.E. GmbH Release : 1 Build Date: Tue Jun 17 18:56:04 1997 Install date: Sun Oct 26 01:19:29 1997 Build Host: Hilbert.suse.de Group : Source RPM: amd-upl102-1.src.rpm Size : 784875 Packager : feedback@suse.de Summary : Automounter Description : An automounter for automatically mounting and unmounting file systems. johayek@Hayek5 $ And this is, where you can get it from (that's actually on a mirror of the SuSE `non-light' version): <A HREF="ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/5.2/suse/n1/amd.rpm"><A HREF="ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/5.2/suse/n1/amd.rpm</A">ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/5.2/suse/n1/amd.rpm I personally regard the `competitor package' `autofs' as far from being mature; the last time I looked at it, it didn't even support the `/net/...' thing. You must be aware, you're going through a steep learning curve, if you try to set up amd, be aware of that! For a quick setup you can always try my configuration files, in case you're getting in trouble. BTW I'm using amd *without* NIS, because the environments I'm working in don't use/support amd, so there's no point setting up NIS tables just to let amd use them. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
