I've installed it as a server side thing but have also used it client side. go to www.spamassassin.org and get the latest stuff. Attached is the install I wrote for getting it to work on suse 7.3 Intsalling spamassassin on a suse 7.3 machine. Required: 1) a suse 7.3 machine with sendmail installed 2) spamassassin (http://www.spamassassin.org) 3) [optional] vipuls razor you will need razor-agent-sdk latest version and razor-agent-1/20 (not the 2 series) 4) the spamassassin milter from ... How to install: Make sure you have a wokring sendmail setup on the suse box. Install vipuls razor (first install the sdk, then install the agent. You may need to get the latest version of Digest::SHA1 from CPAN. Just type perl -MCPAN -e shell install Digest::SHA1 Then install spamassassin (perl Makefile.PL, make, make install) compile the spamassin-milter %gcc -o spamassassin_milter spamassassin_milter.c -lmilter -lsmutil -pthread and install %mv spamassassin_milter /usr/bin Now test the spamassasin Start spamd run spamc < spamexample spamc < nospamexample

I use spamassassin with fetchmail, procmail and Evolution.
I have set up fetchmail to retrieve my mail. Fetchmail then send the
mail to my local mailbox.
I have set up Evolution to read my local mailbox, instead of my ISP.
I have set up spamassassin and procmail as described in the
perl-spamassassin examples and procmail drops possible spam in a local
'catchspam' mbox.
I have set up another account in Evolution that read this mbox, so that
I can still see mail that has been marked as spam incorrectly.

I've been using SpamAssassin for a while. Haven't got it hooked into anything like sendmail. Instead, I've been using pop3proxy (for POP3 mail) and IMAPAssassin for IMAP mail. These are additional programs that use the SpamAssassin libraries. BUT... Since you're using Mozilla anyway, you could give the new junk mail filter a go. It's very accurate, but you need to train it, so it helps if you've got lots of undeleted spam lying around somewhere. The junk mail filter is fully enabled in the latest 1.3b nightly builds. Olly
