[S.u.S.E. Linux] trying to use 2.1.112
I tried to use the new dev kernel, and it appeared to compile and install correctly, but when i tried to boot it from lilo, it restarted the comp. I compiled just like when i updated from 2.0.33 to 2.0.35, but this time it didn't work. I would like to use the new kernel, because it has a driver for my sound card. any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Aaron Seelye <A HREF="http://revolution.3-cities.com/~roberto</A">http://revolution.3-cities.com/~roberto</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

You can't just run a dev kernel, there are other things you need to upgrade. Go to <A HREF="http://www.linuxhq.com</A">http://www.linuxhq.com</A> for a list of the packages you need to upgrade to run a 2.1.x kernel, and remember that these are still unstable kernels, so expect some behaviour you wouldn't get from a 2.0.x kernel. -- ==================================================================== Michael Lankton <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A> ==================================================================== - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I went to linuxhq, and saw the upgrades necessary for the new kernel. If I upgrade using my linux partition, will it be possible to use the 2.0.35 kernel if the dev (now at 2.1.113) kernel doesn't work well for me? -- Aaron Seelye <A HREF="http://revolution.3-cities.com/~roberto</A">http://revolution.3-cities.com/~roberto</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Yes, those packages won't prevent you from going back to a 2.0.x kernel in case you change your mind about 2.1.x -- ==================================================================== Michael Lankton <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A> ==================================================================== - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Make sure you have everything you need. In the Documentation section of the kernel, there's a list of software requirements for the 2.1. series of kernels and a list of ftp sites or whatever that will tell you what things you might need to upgrade to meet the dev kernels requirements.
