[opensuse] DNS resolv problem on 11.1
Hi list, simple questions from me going on. My 11.1 box started somehow not resolving DNS (as a client). it gets IP from DHCP , and has an automatic resolv.conf file created by Network Manager. Having this problem i have moved this resolved.conf file from /etc and edited a new custom one there, but still didnt worked. It gets ip conifguration well , does everything well if IP is given. NSlookup doesnt resolv anything either (when also the dns server is changed). The other clients which are also at that subnet can resolv the DNS very well. Firewall is also disabled on the box. So has someone have an idea for the problem? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, I need to get some new magic for my crystal ball :) Perhaps I wouldn't need to use it if you told us what was in your resolv.conf or what nslookup reported or any other details you have. Are you using nscd? Does it need a restart? rcnscd restart -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

IIRC, there was a bug in dhcpd in 11.1, that prevented an update to the DNS zone files when an address was handed out. This of course would prevent name resolution. Google or check bugzilla.novell you will find it. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Try as root # netconfig -f update to force update of your resolv.conf see 'man 8 netconfig' HTH regards, -- medwinz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
