Applying security patch for sendmail failing
I just recently upgraded my sendmail 8.12.2, installed with Suse 8.0, to = 8.12.3 by using the rpm provided at the SuSe download site. That worked = fine. Now when I try to apply the latest security patch I get the = following error. tripath:/usr/local/src # rpm -U sendmail-8.12.3-72.i386.patch.rpm error: failed dependencies: (null) is needed by sendmail-8.12.3-72 I have verified that 8.12.3 is functioning and installed. What am I = doing wrong here. thanks!

Maybe there is a previous patch needed. You may look for files on the server like "...i386/update/8.0/patches/sendmail*", or the local copy on "/var/lib/YaST2/you/i386/update/8.0/patches/sendmail*". There you could find out for what rpm the patch is intended for. There are also info files on "...i386/update/8.0/rpm/i586/*" with more info - I'm hopping the files are the same or similar to 8.1. Or, you could try to install the patch using yast2 - I have suse 8.1, so I'm not sure - so that it handles dependencies (you should be able to see them). -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
