Repository metadata for projects/*
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Would it be possible to create yast2 or rpm-md metadata in the projects subdirectories (e.g. for projects/OpenOffice) ? At least running a createrepo for 10.0 ? Please ? ;) (@emoenke: I know there is apt-rpm metadata for it on gwdg.de ;)) BTW, current alternative is to use apt or smart: yast2 --install smart smart channel --add openoffice type=apt-rpm \ baseurl=ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386 \ components=openoffice smart update openoffice && smart upgrade OpenOffice_org thanks - -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v The more things change, the more they stay insane. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFEKyApr3NMWliFcXcRAhN5AJ9S+JOU9rQeaEkGjg4s4cSQoqg3awCfZpoy /r1ePsck4LhRtuZtmgKhBNc= =SFxu -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I fully appreciate it - not only for the SUSE parts, but also for every suser-* person. To start creating the repository metadata at the central servers AFTER THE FILES ALREADY HAVE ARRIVED is sick by concept. So to run createrepo "already at home" could shorten availabilty delays a lot. Please, all "my" (Richard's, to be true) suser-people, feel encouraged to create metadata already at your home servers, so that the repositories are usable as such already with the moment of end-of-sync. As I think YaST is damned to die soon (by the creators! who could ever foresee that!), running "createrepo" for yum-compatibility is the easier choice (but more primitive)... But regarding SUSE, I have very strong critics: YOU seems to have murdered already - it does not work for most of the betas, and now there is a very irritating (but verified!) sentence within the release notes about "regarding YOU: use this or that, but in any case something else". Most annoying to me if YOU has to starve.
BTW, current alternative is to use apt or smart: yast2 --install smart smart channel --add openoffice type=apt-rpm \ baseurl=ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386 \ components=openoffice smart update openoffice && smart upgrade OpenOffice_org
I start to doubt if the near SUSE future will follow the reasons (spring, summer). I feel too much "political" influence, neglecting and destroying the existing. I see the need for some big steps before 10.1 because 10.1 has to be the base for SLES10, but what we see is more a demolition than reaching a higher plane. I'll talk to the folks that have their stuff in projects/* to get this fixed. Stay tuned. Regards Christoph
