Question for you all! I am looking for a comparison between an Alpha 600 and an equivalent Intel (pIII?). This machine will be used to grind (convert to our format) millions of lines of data per day. What would be the best for performance. I think it would depend mostly on the type of crunching being done. Is it integer of floating point performance that you are looking for. For a good idea of floating point performance check out this site: http://www.ansys.com/ServSupp/Hardware/benchmarks/bm55/bm55.html elect one of the models and look at the comparisons on the chart. You will notice that the intel platforms can't hold a candle to the Alphas or the HP pa-8000's. (you will also notice the performance hit between NT and Unix on an Alpha :-) I can't help on integer stuff, but I'd still bet on a 64 bit Alpha.
