[SuSE Linux] could you help me, please ?
Dear colleagues, I wonder whether you could help me with comments about the following issue: Which Linux distribution may be better for Windows 9x migrants, SUSE or RedHat ? We seek the most friendly, intuitive and easy-to-use distribution. Thank you. Aldo P. Solari Fisheries Res. I don't think that anyone on this mailing list will argue with me when I say that I feel SuSE is the best Linux distro for any occasion. But, that is just me. I think SuSE has better setup, administration, networking, service capabilities. ---------------------------------- E-Mail: Danny Kephart <kepe@home.com> Date: 15-Jan-99 Time: 00:30:20 ---------------------------------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

None of the above... and ALL of the above, no matter what distrib you use... the differences do not matter :) so arm yourself of patience and pick up the most cost effective for you. ---------------------------------- Date: 15-Jan-99 Time: 15:35:16 "But what we need to know is, do people want nasally-insertable computers?" ---------------------------------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Well it depends on what you mean " friendly, intuitive, and easy-to-use"? If you don't want to understand what is happening, and you want easy to install binary rpms, then Redhat maybe for you. You don't get much of a choice when you install, you are coereced into using OSSFREE for sound, and everything has to be done the"redhat way", or forget it. BUT...if you want the same power as redhat, have completely control over customizing your system, have a really nice manual ( far superior to redhat), and really want to learn what makes the system run, then go with Suse. Yast is far superior to the linuxconf of Redhat. Suse lets you understand what is happening. But wait for Suse 6.0 to come out, it'll only be a few more weeks. Redhat is nice for one reason, you can freely copy it onto other machines, as many as you want. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Besides being a *huge* distro (4 G - 5 cds) and a *useful* manual, a wonderfull configuration tool (yast),KDE, plenty of window managers, all the utilities one needs on cd, along with its developers frequeting this list... AND having the "friendlest list on the net" I mean.... its a no brainer really ;-) I'd say its the best $50 you'll ever spend if your interested in a nice Linux rob Linux Home Page <A HREF="http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm</A">http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm</A> Powered By ---> S.u.S.E 5.3 - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

By this statement do you mean that SuSE cannot be freely copied? I would like an answer from the suse people myself regarding this. The reason I said this, was I'm using a patched up 5.1 distribution, and wanted to get a "discount 5.3 cd" from Cheapbytes.com. Anyways, shipping was delayed, and delayed, and when I inquired to Cheapbytes, they said that there was "some licensing dis-agreement with Suse concerning Yast". So I'm going under the assumption that Suse does not let you make copies and freely distribute them. Anyone know for sure? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
