SCSI card compatibility - Adaptec AHA19160
Hi,
I can se in the hardware compatibility list that the SCSI card Adaptec AHA19160 are supported by Suse Linux 8.1 but not by other versions. Have anyone been working with this hardware on a SUSE Pro 9.2?

So far I didn't have any problems with the card. Usually, when problems raise their ugly head the problem was the terminator or the cable. I've had a LOT of problems with Kernel 2.6 and the raid adapters from Adaptec but none with the 2940 or 19160/29160 adapters. Yes, I am the sysadmin of our company. Thanks Sandy - I'll try to install the card. Lars:-)

Assuming google.com/linux shows nothing I would put a test drive on a caddy load 9.2 and see what happens. You should have your answer in less than an hour. As per my local group Adaptec are in good repute in older well tested cards. newer models sometimes have problems for older distro but then there is the hackers solution to use the drivers source and compile for the older system assuming all compilers, library's etc loaded. -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

I have an Adaptec 19160N in my machine at home. It's working fine with SuSE 10, and was fine with 9.2 as well. I've got 2 U160 disks attached to it with SuSE on (/ and half the swap at the beginning of one, other half of the swap and /opt at the beginning of the other, and the rest of the filesystem distributed fairly evenly between the two), and put data on big, cheaper ATA disks. Gives quite a nice fast result. HTH Fergus -- Fergus Wilde Chetham's Library Long Millgate Manchester M3 1SB Tel: 0161 834 7961 Fax: 0161 839 5797 http://www.chethams.org.uk
