[SLE] FW: [SLE] Plain text vs HTML text....
I have found that when posting to a Linux user's group, listserver, etc. that it is best to avoid HTML. Some lists that I have been on will eventually flame you if you persist. The reason is that some users prefer console-based email clients that are plain-text only. A message in HTML comes across as just plain ugly. You never know, one of those 1950's guys may have the answer that you need to that difficult problem that has stumped you but they deleted your message as soon as they saw the first HTML tag. Remember the primary rule of communicating, write for your audience. just my two cents... Hi all, I've had some feedback, that "many" (two actually so far....), on the list are HTML challenged & would like to check this out on the list proper. So, is HTML a hassle to enalbe/read or are the plain text guys still stuck in the 1950's, not that is is the year 2000 or anything like that? ;-) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Not to mention the fact that mail is, was never intended to be written in html and html adds a lot of unnecessary baggage to the body. In short, it costs too much even for some who CAN read it. So... Couldn't put it better myself... and to add my 2 cents, plain text reduces bandwidth use, period. My email client DOES handle HTML, but I set up a rule that spots HTML messages and transfers them directly to the trash without ever cluttering up the inbox. I had to later add a rule for this list, so that all its messages don't get trashed. Sometime soon I'll read the message I got on what commands I can send to the list server... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

If I read the headers correctly, we both use kmail 1.0.28. Mine does not handle the html but presents it as plain text. I don't know, I just have a default install. Sometimes it renders HTML, sometimes it shows me the code. I haven't seen a pattern - but then I haven't looked for one. But when I signed up for the list, I found that my rule set was dumping *all* the mail from the list in the trash. I disabled the HTML rule and it stopped doing that. So I added a new rule to file the list mail safely and then turned the HTML rule back on. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
