Hi everybody, I hope this question does not sound too stupid. I have several Suse Linux servers, and each time that I want to upgrade, I have to run around with a pack of cd's. I would like to copy the CD's to one machine, and install all the others from there. I'm am sure this is possible, but since I'm a newbie in this area I don't even know where to start looking. I would appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction. Thanks Marius

If you are willing to try, try doing a cp -pruv .* *.* * target-directory-on-networked-PC For each of the disks. This should dump your CDs contents on to a directory. Do this in order 5,4,3,2 and then disk-1 in the end [my superstition]. Then let an http/ftp server serve these pages. Try this. I have been told that this is all that is there to it. Jumpstart is very much used in Solaris network installations. Kickstart is RedHat's netwrok installation.
You should have a look at AutoYaST (a YaST2 module that is not default by default). Documetation can be found here: http://suse.de/~nashif/autoinstall/ Greetings from Bremen hartmut

I meant to write: "a YaST2 module that is not _installed_ by default".
Very Interesting ... I am reading it . Many thanks, stefan

Marius, The first time I installed Suse 8.2 was before I received the DvDs, so I installed directly from their Ftp server. You can make a network install either by ftp or nfs. FJMA

Apart from AutoYaST (see other e-mails in this thread), you should have a look at the following article from our support data base: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/12/remote_install.html That's if you have questions about remote installation as the subject suggests. From your e-mail on the other hand it sounds more like your interested in NFS or FTP install source in your LAN. You find another article in the support data base about this: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2001/07/daniel_ftpinst_local.html Greetings from Bremen hartmut
