[opensuse] 1440x900 widescreen monitor problem
Hi, I've been trying to configure a HP w19 monitor, but haven't been able to make it perfect. The picture does not fill the screen horizontally, so that I have black stripes on left and right edges. I've tried to configure the monitor with sax2 and using XFine tool while testing the server config I can indeed make the pigture pixel-perfect. When I hit "Save", exit sax2 and restart the X, the tuning is lost. I also manually edited the Modeline in xorg.conf to no avail. The relevant parts of the file: Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "XServerPool" DisplaySize 400 250 HorizSync 30-83 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "HP W19" Option "DPMS" VendorName "HWP" VertRefresh 50-75 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" Modeline "1440x900" 111.06 1440 1528 1680 1920 900 901 904 933 -HSync +Vsync EndSection Cheers, Teemu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have you put your modes into Section "Screen"? It should look like SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1440x900" "1280x800" "1152x864" "1280x768" "1024x768" "800x600" "768x576" "640x480" EndSubSection gpk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, this is okay. Also I forgot to mention that I'm using the analog D-SUB input, not DVI-D on the monitor. The display adapter is SiS 660, should that make any difference. The resolution is correctly set to 1440x900, but the frequencies are wrong since the picture is too narrow. The monitor reports H: 56kHz V: 60Hz when the picture is too small and 59kHz, 63Hz when the picture is perfect during XFine2 tuning (I select "Change Size" and then a couple of clicks on the "<- ->" button). Is there a way to see the modeline XFine2 creates during testing the server? -Teemu

As a workaround I can start an X session, launch xterm, log in as root with ssh -X and then run xfine against the existing server to have S W E E T full screen 1440x900 picture. Not very elegant in everyday use though. -Teemu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hello, I run a HP ZD8000 with a 1440x900 screen without any problem. I use neither SaX2 nor the SuSe driver, instead I use the ATI fglrx driver and manually modify the xorg.conf files for 3 modes : - LCD only - LCD and external CRT - LCD and TV Here is the xorg.conf file for LCD only, if you need the 2 other ones let me know. Good luck Michel # /.../ # Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout[all]" Screen "Screen[0]" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents" Option "Clone" "off" Option "Xinerama" "off" EndSection Section "Files" InputDevices "/dev/gpmdata" InputDevices "/dev/input/mice" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/PEX" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin7/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/baekmuk:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/japanese:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/kwintv" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/uni:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/sgi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xtest" FontPath "/opt/kde3/share/fonts" EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" Load "type1" Load "extmod" Load "dbe" Load "freetype" Load "v4l" Load "dri" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "on" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard[0]" Driver "kbd" Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbLayout" "fr" Option "XkbModel" "pc102" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Driver "mouse" Option "Buttons" "11" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Name" "Microsoft USB Wireless Mouse" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse[3]" Driver "synaptics" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "Synaptics;Touchpad" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" Option "SHMConfig" "on" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor[0]" VendorName "--> LCD" ModelName "1440X900@70HZ" UseModes "Modes[0]" DisplaySize 366 229 HorizSync 30.0 - 90.0 VertRefresh 58.0 - 72.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device[0]" Driver "fglrx" VendorName "ATI" BoardName "Radeon Mobility X600 (M24) 3150 (PCIE)" Option "ForceMonitors" "lvds,nocrt1" BusID "1:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen[0]" Device "Device[0]" Monitor "Monitor[0]" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" # initial origin if mode is smaller than desktop Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1440x900" EndSubSection EndSection Section "DRI" Group "video" Mode 0660 EndSection -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Same problem than yours. The solution I met was to install nvidia drivers from Nvidia web. jose a. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
