[SuSE Linux] 2.2.3 success but mouse hates me
I have successfully compiled and installed my first kernel. I was in a state of shock when 2.2.3 was running after reboot. Too Cool. However my mouse hates me. I disabled gpm which has always caused me mouse problems. When x starts my cursor stays in the middle of the screen. I run sax and that fixes it till my next reboot. This is very strange to me because I thought if I fix it in sax it would stay fixed but nope..... I did add ps2 mouse support in kernel....Any ideas? I would also like to say THANKS for all the past help I have received through this mail list. Whoever said there was poor support for linux smokes crack. Same problem as I have. Save over the file called /etc/XFree86Config (or something similar, look the name up with ls /etc/X*. -- Paul Kenneth Egell-Johnsen Sales Support and System Development Metaphor Systems as -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

This is strange, because I have never had mouse probs, and I do run 2.2.3 and gpm with no ill effects. Below are some file sections dealing with your prob. See if yours looks similar: from XF86Config: Section "Pointer" Protocol "PS/2" Device "/dev/mouse" # smlinked to /dev/psaux Emulate3Timeout 50 Resolution 100 Buttons 3 Emulate3Buttons EndSection ------------- ------------- from rc.config: # # Which device is the mouse ? (e.g. "/dev/ttyS0") # MOUSE="/dev/psaux" ------------- ------------- during kernel (2.2.3) compile I just select the device: Character devices ---> [*] Mouse Support (not serial mice) Mice ---> [*] PS2 mouse (aka "auxiliary device") support ------------- ------------- dmesg reveals: Detected PS/2 Mouse Port. ------------- ------------- I can't think of any other files associated, offhand. If you can think of any, let me know and I will send those particulars. I do, however, use "xf86config" instead of "SaX", as I am not really fond of NOT having manual control. I use "Yast" to configure gpm, and so far, it has worked flawlessly.
