[SLE] Serial + ps2 mouse with X?
When at home I like to use an external keyboard and serial mouse connected to a laptop. Anyone on this list who has configured X to use two mice simultaneously? I have done this with gpm, but the X howto's don't seem to mention this sort of thing. I guess that I could create two different XF86Config files and run X via a script which would rename the files, but then I would have to maintain 2 different config files whenever I wanted to change something - seems kind of kludgely. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I have done this on my Toshiba laptop, but I was using a ps2 mouse. I don't know how your laptop is but I didn't have to do anything to Linux I just set it in the bios to allow two mice. It is a feature in the Toshiba setup. Good luck. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R. W9x does it without having to re-configure, as long as the serial mouse is connected at boot time. It takes the pain out of using a laptop full time, and makes it seem like a desktop machine. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

If you would have an external PS/2 mouse in addition to the laptop mouse device, it would work. Using two different mouse types will be possible with XFree86 4.0, the current XFree86 release does not support this. With my laptop it works without any special configuration.. Sometimes it get anoying when you acidentally hit the touch pad when you are drawing something in GIMP :) Perhaps it only works with external ps2 mice?
