Hey all, Since updating KDE, when I boot up as user, I get an error window stating that /dev/dsp was not accessible either defective or busy? Do I have something turned on that shouldn't be or something else off that should be on? I am using a Creative 512PCI sound card. All seems to be working well right now with sound, but I am at a loss as to what this message is? Thanks in advance for suggestions, comments, hints or solutions. :-) end of line Tracer -- ---KMail 1.3--- SuSE Linux v7.2--- Registered Linux User #225206 /tracerb@sprintmail.com/ *Magic Page Products* *Team Amiga* http://home.sprintmail.com/~tracerb

This seems to be a bug in the KDE packages. Simply ignore it. Hi Lenz. About how long would you estimate it would be before a fix is out? I have had problems with native kde sound. The programs work but the gui sound is flaky and fails often. Cheers, Curtis :) On Wednesday 29 August 2001 13:43, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

hi, this brings me to one question : why did the kde team decide to use artsd ??? i mean, it is seriously blocking the /dev/dsp device, even if the driver is capable of handling multiple opens (like the sblive, but not the pci128) ?? why do people introduce another layer of acessing sound on top of an already working one ?? just to output these plings and plongs from a gui there should be no need for a "sound server", which also introduces alot of lag (which is bad if you want to make music, like me). and the arts sound server is absolur overkill since arts is something like a modular dsp app for designing synthis and effects and so on..... but not for handling sound blips of the system.... i can not understand this. i have written to the kde team on that issue month' ago, but still got no answer. greets, chris Am Donnerstag, 30.
