Hi all, I have had a webserver running suse 8.1 for quite some time, and have decided that it's time to get something that is more up to date. I have installed 9.1 on another machine, and so far everything works like a champ. Web server, ftp server, mail, and so on. That's except Squirrelmail. I installed it as I had on the old machine, and ran the configure program. Went through all the steps, save the config, and thought all was well. Then from another machine on the network, I tried to log in. Imap is started, Passwords are checked and correct, but it absolutely will not log anyone in. I've played with settings until I can't think of anything else to do. In my log, I get the following. Imapd (4061) login disabled user=mike auth=mike host=localhost (127.0.0.1) Doesn't even work with root. I haven't tried it from the same machine, but that's not what I need. I know I'm missing something simple, but have run out of ideas. Look through the archives. This is always a problem with squirrelmail and has been discussed and solved many times over.

I did, it isn't there, but thanks anyway. Went through the archives, and found several references to it. Even went to one of the suse pages that was referenced. Still no luck. Oh, well, it's about what I expected. The list can argue about calculators ad nauseum but regular problems get "check the archives". I'll keep playing with it, and searching.. Eventually I'll figure it out. I too tried googling for more info (I couldn't remember seeing it discussed previously 'many times over') but also didn't find anything that seemed pertinent. Your lack of a real response is more likely due to no-one who is reading today has the answer for you (I know I don't). Check back again in a day or so an there's a good chance someone will have posted pointers. The banter regarding calculators doesn't mean readers are ignoring you, they just don't have the answer to your specific question. A good way to search the archives is with google: site:lists.suse.com [sle] search1 search2 ... list as many search criteria as needed to narrow the results. In this case you can use site:lists.suse.com [SLE] squirrelmail and you will get 530 results. Add a specific year, 2005, and the results get smaller, 146 results. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge

Usually, I get the best results when searching the archives of this list via marc.theaimsgroup.com. This particular list can be found here: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=suse-linux-e&r=1&w=2 but they have - as far as i can see - all other SuSE mailing lists (as well as a whole bunch of other distros') as well. Ok, here are notes on what I used to do to make it run. I no longer use squirrelmail and would have given you these notes earlier but I thought someone had come up with a better solution. Not sure this will still work. ============================================================= 28) Squirrelmail wouldn't work with imap in 8.2. Got a later SQMAIL and then added an /etc/cram-md5.pwd file to /etc/ and told SQM to use cram-md5 auth. 1) Make up a file: /etc/cram-md5.pwd that has in it your userids and pswd's: user1 pswd1 user2 pswd2 (the passwords do not have to match the actual passwords for these users and they are only used by squirrelmail and imap) 2) in the directory: /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail/ run: ./configure 3) Select option 2, 'Server settings' Select option A, 'update IMAP Settings' 4) Select option 6, 'Authentication type' Say 'no' to Auto-detect Enter: cram-md5 for the type. Save and exit.
