[opensuse] Turn off touch pad in 42.2
I have a ThinkPad E520 notebook computer. With earlier versions of openSUSE, I was able to disable the touch pad with a script in the .kde4/Autorun directory, which disabled the touch pad. This doesn't seem to work with 42.2. Even running it manually doesn't work. How do I turn off the #$%*$ touch pad??? The script contained: !/bin/sh synclient TouchpadOff=1 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Never mind. Found a way in desktop settings. I don't recall seeing that in 13.1. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Maybe not. Even that Touchpad configuration in Input Devices doesn't seem to disable it. Any ideas? tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Where is that? Should be on the Settings menu but be aware that there could be 2 of them, one for plasma and one for kde4

No, only one "systemsettings5", but there is a "systemsettings" which is for kde4. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, only one "systemsettings5", but there is a "systemsettings" which is for kde4. I know the binaries are different but they have exactly the same description for both on the menu i.e. Systems Settings if i type "systemsettings" into the

They have different scopes besides being binary different. One is *only* for plasma5/kde5 and the other for remaining kde4 apps -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

synaptics, isn’t it? The package was removed from defaults, but you can still install it. See: https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/42.2/ -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

That package was already installed. I installed gsynaptics, which is a graphical interface for it. It shows the touch pad is disabled. However, it most definitely is not. I have hated touch pads since I first used one on a Toshiba computer, back in the Windows 95 days. I refuse to buy a computer without a Trackpoint for that reason. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have cranked up the Touchpad sensitivity to max and enabled palm detection. That seems to work. However, there should be some clear method for disabling that piece of garbage, as there is in Windows. It would be nice if my computer could switch it off in the hardware config, as some other models support. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That means it is not synaptics handling it.

Me, I find trackpoints unusable, and instead I'm happy with touch pads :-P I also like trackballs more than mice, but I don't carry any with my laptop. One thing less to carry. My laptop has a small button to disable it, but depending on the openSUSE release it does not restore functionality when pressed again. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
