3) Check the jumpers on the IDE devices. Look for ones that say 'compatability' and such in the device manuals. Some IDE devices don't always get along correctly with each other without such tweaks.
In the meantime, the problem got solved. I advised my friend to change CD-ROM drive because I got the info that there are problems with Pioneer CD-ROMs. My friend has replaced his Pioneer CD with the friend's BTC CD and install program works. Now, he is just waiting me to come with CDs to finish the installation. I am so happy that there is so much help on this list - it just keeps me with SuSE. Pioneer CD-ROm in in another box, coping with Windows, but I'd like to check your suggestions. Also, maybe it is worth (if there are more cases) to warn people in using Pioneer CD-ROM with (SuSE) Linux. Better to see on the list that there could be a problem than to complain later. There are so many CD-ROM drives on the market, so it is really not a big deal.
