[S.u.S.E. Linux] Printing problem
I just installed SuSE 5.2, seemingly without error. Used YaST to config my printer, an HP Deskjet 520 B&W on the parallel port. The lpd is started at boot time. I can produce stairstepped printer output as root using cat filename > /dev/lp1 When I try to print either ASCII or PS via the installed APSfilter, I get the message "getport: Unknown host 'BeagleDog' " BeagleDog is my machine name in /etc/HOSTNAME. Using a new and simplified printcap without the APSfilter gives the same results. What's going on? I didn't think that communication with lpd involved loopback or a hostname at all. I thought YaST was supposed to handle this stuff :-( BTW, SuSE's support has not responded in a week. Is that about par for the course? -- Howard Arons -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
What do you get when you exec "lpr filename"? Still stair-stepped? Howard Arons wrote:

BTW, SuSE's support has not responded in a week. Is that about par for the course? No... there's two or three people from SuSE who (usually, or in the past) would respond daily on this list... 'cept when there's a big show like the Spring Comdex and available personel are out boothing.
