Hello, I've SuSE 9.2 installed. My Philips ToUCam Pro webcam uses module pwc, which is no longer maintained. Somewhere I read that pwc was indeed included in the kernel. Should this be true, does anyone know how to get it working? -- Pablo Ortúzar

The first maintainer asked for his stuff to be removed from the kernel in a dispute over the fact that he was using a kernel hook whereas he should have implemented some of the stuff in user space. A few people stepped up and said they'd supply the code, so far Alan Cox has done so in his 2.6.9-ac kernels, but I haven't checked to see if it's in Linus' tree for 2.6.10-rc1 or if SuSE have backported it to recent kernels. ok, my 9.2 CD's just came in the mail !!!!!!!!!!!!! and Amazon said Nov 15th was the ship date, they lied!! ok, when I installed 9.1 I just made a root and swap partition. I'd like to make a separate /home partition. I don't want to lose my current /home/users setup, so what's the best/easiest way to add a new /home partition?? shouldI add it first before I upgrade? or copy ( backup?) the /home directory to another partition, and add it during the uprade????? -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800

I would vote to do it before the upgrade...... but it's really a toss-up. 1) Define the new partition. (watch out for changing the numbers of your current partitions in /etc/fstab) 2) Format the new partition. 3) mount /dev/hdax /mnt (mount it) 4) rsync -auvzr /home/ /mnt/ (copy it) 5) mount /dev/hdax /home 6) Add an entry in /etc/fstab for the new /home partition. Note: The above will leave all of your current /home files 'hidden' behind the mount of the new partition. When you are satisfied your new partition is safely in place, then: 1) unmount /home 2) Make sure /home got umounted by issuing 'mount' (/home should not be shown) 3) cd /home 4) rm -r * Be very careful what you are doing with the above so as to not erase all your files from the new partition.

Do this in Konqueror's location window: 'gg:lists site:lists.suse.com /home partition' -don't use quotes. Jerome

You could also add in the email list's name to Jerome's advice and narrow the search a wee bit. Jerome's way looks at all the email lists at SUSE. gg:lists site:lists.suse.com suse-linux-e /home partition ^^^^^^^ entered into Konqueror's search bar will narrow the search to our favorite list here. No upgrade, not even the very awful 9.2 has ever touched any of my /root or /home directories on SuSE or Mandrake, though I still do backups ahead of upgrading. I either tar/bzip2 them or cp -dpR them to another disk or directory. As for the 9.2 upgrade, after a few hours of trying various ideas, I got the x86_64 upgrade done on my laptop. The 32-bit install on this box was another level of difficulty, see my posts on the list today, eventually I had to do a new install without formatting the partitions. 9.0 to 9.1 was a breeze.
