No sound Windows - SuSE 9.3 Pro Dual Boot
Hi, I just got a new comp into my lab. It was supposed to be a Windows machine, but I convinced my Prof. and made it into a dual boot system with SuSE 9.3 Pro on it. Everything is fine except that the machine doesn't give out any sound after the installation. The information from the SuSE Hardware tool in the system says this under Sound Device. Intel 828801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller. In Details under Driver it says the following Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd-hda-intel is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd-hda-intel" When I started playing a mp3 song with Real Player, it plays without giving any error message but no sound. I have checked out the volume control in Kmix. It seems to be Ok. When I booted the system with a Live CD, Kate OS, I could play the song with Mplayer that comes with it. Rules out any hardware problem. Also Windows gives sound. Any ideas what could be wrong. Chaitanya. ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs

Hi,two possibilities, did you do the online update and download the sound packages? and if you did do that two, check to see that your volume control isn't muted. -- j registered linux user #363029
Hi,
Hi,two possibilities, did you do the online update and download the sound packages? and if you did do that two, check to see that your volume control isn't muted.
Positive for both the above. Chaitanya. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
I had similar issues with NICs before, which was resolved by removing configuration and then reconfiguration of the NIC. Also check the driver used by Kate OS and compare that with the driver used by SuSE. Had a similar problem with a RAID controller not working on SuSE but working on MDK. Turned out MDK used a different driver than SuSE. Can you tell me how to check (even some pointers will do) what drivers have been used and how to change them? Chaitanya. ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs
