What's a good laptop to buy to run Linux on? One that has a >>modem and sound that works well at least? I am using BM ThinkPad 390E from last year and everythings works fine.
If the laptop has a Lucent WinModem, can that work under Linux? >>Was there some driver out there for Lucent based Winmodems?
Yes, refer to site www.linmodem.org it has drivers for 2.2 and 2.4 kernel. It has binaries and also sources. Extract and compile . Install the linmodem driver, it would make a new /dev/ttyS14 device and link it to /dev/modem. Using YAST2 change the configuration file for MODEM to /dev/ttyS14. Everything should start working.
