[SuSE Linux] patching kernel 2.2.3 -> 2.2.4
Hi, I have the complete 2.2.3 kernel source, and there is a patch for the latest 2.2.4 kernel. Can this be applied to the 2.2.3 source? Or do I need to apply the whole set of 2.2.* patches? It seems to me that the 2.2.3 source code package should be equivalent to the 2.2.0 package with the 2.2.1, and 2.2.2, and 2.2.3 patches applied. Is this correct? It seems like a dumb question, but I just want to make sure. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
Yes, your intuition's right. :) The complete kernel sources in the huge linux-2.2.3.tar.gz you probably just recently d/led is equivellent to 2.2.0 plus all the patches up to 2.2.3; you can safely save yourself the d/l time and get the patch file for 2.2.4 and apply it to the 2.2.3 source. That's what patches are for. :) good luck, j -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 GH/IT d(--) s++: a-- C+++ UL+> P+ L++ E W++(-) N+ o> K- w O M V-- PS+ PE Y+ PGP t+ 5++ X R tv b++ DI+ D- G e>> h-- r y+ ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ www.geekcode.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Yes, you don't need to get the previous patches, only the patches between your version and the version you want to goto. -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - <A HREF="http://www.primenet.com/~tomas</A">http://www.primenet.com/~tomas</A> S.u.S.E.
