hi, when i try to start mailman using "rcmailman start" i get the following error: Starting mailmanSite list is missing: mailman failed does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? thanks --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.481 / Virus Database: 277 - Release Date: 5/13/2003
i solved this myself. i read the file /usr/share/doc/packages/mailman/README.SuSE. it's got pretty good instructions there. my only problem now is that i can't access the web site to change the settings. -----Original Message----- From: Infra [mailto:infratl@snappydsl.net] Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2003 11:52 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] mailman problem hi, when i try to start mailman using "rcmailman start" i get the following error: Starting mailmanSite list is missing: mailman failed does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be? thanks --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. when i try to login to kde as root it says my password is invalid even though i type in the correct address. also, if i log in as a user and open a terminal window and try to become root by typing "su" then the correct password it says the password is wrong. also, when i try to go to the control center, it asks for the root password but says it's the wrong one when i type it in. it looks like kde isn't recognizing the root user. how can this be fixed? thanks --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. If you get a message saying it's the wrong password in three different places, what leads you to believe that it's the correct password? Can you log in as root anywhere using that password?
i can login in the text consoles fine, using that password. but when i'm in "graphical mode", it doesn't seem to work. -----Original Message----- From: Anders Johansson [mailto:andjoh@rydsbo.net] Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2003 10:59 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] loggin into kde as root not working On Wednesday 28 May 2003 04.53, Infra wrote:

You have the wrong (or different) keyboard setting for user root in kde. cheers, Marcel
yes, that is the problem. i was able to figure out the keyboard layout, i typed in the password and it worked. so i went in the control center and changed the layout to the correct one. one problem though. every time i log into kde the layout is changed back to that different layout. how can i get it to stay on us-english layout all the time? thanks -----Original Message----- From: Marcel Broekman [mailto:m.broek@chello.nl] Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 11:58 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] loggin into kde as root not working On Wednesday 28 May 2003 05:26, Infra wrote:

I don't know how to look the source code of a package in source rpm format, without recompiling and installing the binary code. I know that "rpm --rebuild *src.rpm" unpacks the code but it also compile and installs. I don't need to compile and install. I just need to read the source code of a program in the package. How can I do it?

Install it with rpm -i, and look in /usr/src/packages/{SOURCES,SPECS} -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogical, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

Are you sure that "rpm -i *src.rpm" won't compile and install the binaries? Thanks.
Why do you think they're called *src.rpm? :-) It's source code, that means there are no binaries included. cheers, Marcel

Actually no. It means the package won't be installed, but the contents simply copied to the /usr/src/packages tree. It's perfectly possible to make a src.rpm containing binaries. The nvidia driver src.rpm, for example, contains binaries
