Ok all this talk about true type fonts and I want them. I'm looking for the difinitave answer. . .what is the best way to get them in KDE and Netscape. Do I need xfstt or is there a better solution?? If so where do I get it or what do I do? I've been looking since I read all this but I can't find it. Also if I need this to make my system look good and readable why isn't it on the CDROMs? -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R. Yes, use xfstt from ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/fonts/. I just use the fonts from all the free sites found on Yahoo, but if you have some already, make sub-directory like "/usr/ttfonts" as xfstt looks there for one. After compiling and installing, do this...... You have to run xfstt twice: xfstt --sync xfstt & then: xset fp+ unix/:7100 <--- Not sure exactly xset fp rehash Now you can use the fonts in apps like Gimp. You may also need to add a line to your XF86Config file. Consult the instructions... The bad thing is that if you want to use bold fonts for Netscape documents, you have to include the bold TT font in the ttfonts subdirectory -- while NS allows you to specify attributes for QUOTED material in mail or postings, it doesn't allow it for normal documents or compositions. Moreover, it will only see the FIRST font with a given name, so if you have both Comic and Comic bold fonts in your ttfonts directory, it will only use the first one it encounters. Crude, huh? What really gripes me is that the Arial bold font from my win95 installation is the most readable one :-( Maybe NS 5.0 will be better... -- Cheers, Bev ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "Where's the ladies' sty? I am trying to install SuSE 6.1 onto a Compaq LTE 486/75 laptop with 16 Meg or RAM. I boot with the boot disk, set up my PCMCIA card (it's recognized as an ne200, port 0x300, IRQ 3, chip set i82365, no parameters entered for the chip set). I tell it to install via FTP and put in all the correct IP addresses. I successfully connect to another SuSE 6.1 box and it starts to load. The dialog box says "Loading data into ram disk" and it freezes at about 80% done. :-( Now what do I do? ;-(
don't give up and try nfs install ;-) -alexm On Fri, 30 Jul 1999, Faber Fedor wrote:

first the cd has to be mounted on the remote machine on /var/admin/mnt when the install asks for a username pick a non root user and issue the username & password when install asks where is the mount point type /var/admin/mnt try that and see what happens -- Linux Home page http://www.connix.com/~dizzy73/LBM.htm

By far the easiest way is get an XServer with the xfstt extention stuff compiled in. You just plug it in over the top of your current XF86, set up the fonts directory and it works. I don't know if there's such a thing for SuSE (I use SuSE on my server which doesn't run X) but there is one for RHL5.1 which I've used for a long time, and it works a treat. IIRC the rpm only has one file in it (XF86_SVGA in my case) so it would almost certainly slot into SuSE without any trouble (but take backups of your current server and config first!).
